Frequently Asked Questions
While we have tried to provide answers to
a lot of the commen questions we are asked, if you have something you
want to ask please don't hesitate to get in touch by
email or phone.
How do i convert
from inches to millimetres?
I f
your still working in feet & inches, you need to convert them to millimetres for
us. Take your feet and inch measurement
(6' 6") Multiply the amount of feet by 12 (72), add the odd inches to give
total inches, 78.
Now times the 78 by 25.4 = 1981
1 inch = 25.4mm
100 centimetre = 1 metre
10 millimetre = 1 centimetre
1 metre = 1000 millimetre
How do
i toe & heel a frame?
Toe & heeling a frame is relatively simple, but very
important. If it isn't done correctly then you will find that the frame will
begin to have lock and alignment issues. Instructions
can be found here.
Do i need fire hinges
Fire hinges are fitted as standard to all of our frames, simply speaking a
fire hinge is one that opens to a 90 degree angle. In the event of a fire this
coupled with adequate opening sizes would allow for emergency service to gain
access to your house, or for you to use it as means of escape.
We strongly recommend that you have fire hinges and a 615 sash width on all
bedroom windows, we also suggest that these are fitted with non locking
handles. These items do not cost extra, but do provide extra peace of mind.
Building regulations stipulate that all occupied rooms must have one opener
that can be used as an exit on any new build work. There are strict size guides
to adhere to. Keep this in mind while thinking about designs. for more
information on the regulations, please see our
information page.
Do I have to have toughened glass?
There are regulations on where toughened glass has to be, for example in
doors, low level frames etc. We only put toughened glass in where it is a legal
requirement. If you would like to have other frames glazed with toughened glass
e.g. windows near bunk beds etc let us know and we will include for it.
We will not supply doors or frames that we know should have toughened glass
without it.
My new door lock is sticking?
This is one of the most common problems with new doors, the main cause is
because of an incorrect installation. All windows and doors must have the glass
correctly toe & heeled to ensure the lock functions correctly. See
our guide
What
is the lead time on windows & doors?
Our lead time for standard windows & doors is 7
- 10 days, although normally we have them ready sooner than that. For other
frames, Bi fold doors, Vertical Sliders, composite doors, etc the lead times
start at approximately three weeks.
What is a Trickle Vent?
A trickle vent also known as a night vent is a small vent that fits to pre
drilled holes in the top of the window. These vents allow for a small amount of
air to pass freely, eliminating condensation. Ideal for use in bathrooms and
kitchens. The vent can also be closed.
